The first day was terrible for me. I missed Wayne so much.. kept worrying about him, whether he could get used to not having me around, whether he could get used to drinking from the bottle for so many feeds a day etc... When I went home after work that night, I was so happy to see him! Played with him the whole night.. and then suddenly it struck me that I'd only have the nights to be with him. That short 2-3 hours if I am lucky. And then I cried. Cos it dawned upon me that I probably won't be around to see my little Wayne learning for the first time to grab his toy, or say his first word or take his first step.. Every new thing that he learns, I can only hear it from my mil who is helping me take care of him, cos I will probably be in office typing away or be in some meetings..
It didnt help when I learnt that Wayne was not drinking much as well.. Usually he averages 110ml which is already considered very little for his age. But on the first day I was back at work, he only drank 70 and 80ml for 2 feeds in that day. And, he cried and screamed very loudly thrice.. it was so heartbreaking. I'm not entirely sure he is able to realise at this age that mommy & daddy was not around.. but I think so.. cos over the weekend, little Wayne hardly cried at all! In fact, he was so happy and cheery the whole day. Smiling, cooing and playing with us the whole day.
So that was the first day.. the second and remaining days of the week wasnt that bad. I still missed Wayne alot, thinking about him in office. But somewhere along, I kind of accepted it... that I HAVE to work. That there wasnt a choice. And so I started to feel better. Coming home each night to play with him and learn to be contented with just that. And, yes looking forward to the weekend when I can spend the whole day with him!
And, during the week, on Wednesday and Friday, we rushed home after work and brought Wayne out for dinner. Both times to East Coast as it was nearest our home. That was fun. =)
