Amanda has finally started flipping at 5 and a half months. According to Dr Irene, for 'fat' babies like Amanda, they usually start flipping much later than other not-so-fat babies. Some even skip this flipping stage entirely. Too heavy. Hehe.
Ever since Amanda discovered she had this fun ability to flip, she has been doing it constantly! (I remember Wayne going through this exact phase too.) Especially when she is in her cozy cot.
Turn my back for a few seconds, and this is the sight which greets me! All complete with a grin on her face once she gets into her final position.
Funnily, while most babies first learn to flip upwards, Amanda has decided that flipping downwards is much easier - comfortably into her tummy time position.
So love this little girl!
Though, I must say she has been taking this flipping a little too far!
Cos for the initial few nights after her discovery, she has been flipping in the middle of the night when she is supposed to be sound asleep! This sleep disruption - not a good thing for mommy. Especially on working days. Some nights, she would flip up to twenty times (no joking!), get stuck in tummy down position and start to cry. I'll turn her back up and she'd go back to sleep almost immediately, only to have her facing down and crying less than half an hour later. I'm puzzled as to why she would flip while sleeping!
Talking about sleep disruption, there was one night just a week back, that Amanda woke up around 2am and didn't go back to sleep until 4am! And, what did she want to do? Play! Cos she kept chuckling when she saw me. As much as tired-sleep deprived-mommy wanted to be angry with her for not sleeping, she was so cute and adorable that I saw myself cooing and playing with her instead for the next hour. How to resist such sweetness?
Good thing is that Amanda has somewhat improved over the week, with the number of times she flip while sleeping gradually reducing. Looking forward to sleep normalcy.
