Celebrating SG50 in school
All dressed up in red, ready for their "Singapore party" (in Amanda's words) in school. I love how they were so enthusiastic over the party, gamely posing for photos and excitedly asking for the "Singapore tattoos" this morning.

The start of his bo-geh days
This was one post I wanted to get done despite it being a few months late. About Wayne's......... teeth. Oki nothing exciting but well, it's one of those growing up milestones worthy of being recorded down on this blog.
Actually, it was more than that.
You see, in January this year, we found out that Wayne is one of the lucky few who has an extra tooth.
Tooth 1 - bottom right
It started normally enough, his bottom right tooth have been wobbling for quite some time. Four days into the new year, I was having breakfast with him at Boomarang when I realized 'woah his tooth was hanging on to his gums by a thread' and by afternoon, it was out. No pain, hardly any blood. I remember both Wayne and I were quite ecstatic, feeling like that was some major accomplishment. We were shouting "Yay yay, the tooth is out!" or some sort. Haha. And, it was just a day after our family photo shoot, I remember thinking how very timely it was to start his days of being 'bo-geh'.
First tooth keepsake.
Tooth 2 - bottom left
His second tooth - bottom left - dropped within weeks of the first. In school - we assume. Cos he left home for school that morning with his bottom left tooth in tact and came home without it. He didn't know it had dropped off, had no clue where or when it happened, so it could jolly well have been part of his lunch or tea snack. No pain, no blood and no keepsake this time too.
Tooth 3 - upper right
Then came the turn of the third upper right tooth. It had been wobbling for quite some time, even before tooth number two dropped off. We didn't know that there was a normal sequence when it came to the dropping of the milk teeth. But what happened was that instead of dropping off pretty soon as the other two bottom ones did, his tooth started growing sideways. Again, ignorant us thought it was a normal thing to happen before it dropped, being pushed by the out coming permanent tooth. Thankfully we decided on a visit to the dentist not too long after. Immediately the dentist suspected that things were not so normal and ordered an X-ray which revealed his extra tooth.
The extra tooth, we learnt, was positioned in between his milk and permanent tooth, and was pushing its way out resulting in his upper right tooth being wobbly and pushed to the side. The advice was to first remove the milk tooth then extract the extra tooth so that it will not hamper the growth of the permanent tooth.
The milk tooth having no roots could be easily removed. It was the extra tooth which would require an extraction. There were two ways. One, the normal process adults go through which is to first have an injection to numb the area before the extraction takes place. Second, under GA. The second option really because there was no way Wayne would be able to sit still with mouth open after he goes through the pain of the injection. Or so we think....
Now here is where I should elaborate on how terrified this boy is of going to the dentist. There has in fact, never been a successful dental visit where we managed to get his teeth cleaned. Any sight of those scary dental instruments and he'd be screaming his head off. The last time we needed to get the X-ray done he embarrassingly spat at the dentist to my horror of horrors. We pinned him down, shoved the X-ray camera into his mouth just to get a snapshot of his teeth.
So prepping Wayne for the removal of his milk tooth, we had such a surprise when it came to the moment. He totally wowed us with his bravery. It took us weeks of psychoing him, credit to the daddy. The procedure was over before we knew it and there was zero fussing.
Not for the faint hearted, a video of the extraction.
Based on this experience we are wondering if he'd be able to go through the extraction process? We haven't quite decided on next steps. Though the dentist recommends the immediate removal of the extra tooth, we are worried that after doing so, the permanent tooth for some reason decides to stay where it is (gasp!). Hence we are inclined to wait till it shows signs of growing out before deciding to extract the extra tooth. That means a risk of the permanent tooth growing out less than perfectly straight, but we can live with that. After all there's Invasalign these days!
So yep that's the long story of his teeth and..... just for the record, milk tooth number four has just started to wobble now!

7 years!
10 May 2015 marks a very important milestone in our marriage. We celebrate 7 years of blissful union! Time really does zip by. As cliche as it sounds, it really does seem just like yesterday that we got married at the Conrad Centennial. Since that magical night, we have had 2 lovely children and have also finally gotten a home to call our own.
Coincidentally, 10 May 2015 was also Mother's Day. We therefore had 2 meals to celebrate, lunch with the kids for Mother's Day and dinner to celebrate our 7th year anniversary.
We kicked things off with an early lunch at the Ocean Restaurant @ Resorts World Sentosa. Rachel had always wanted to check out the restaurant as the novelty of being able to dine among the fishes seemed too irresistible. So what better venue where the kids would also enjoy and appreciate the view.
While we have visited the underwater aquarium before, nothing quite compares being seated beside the giant fish tank while you enjoy your meal. The moment you step into the restaurant, the astounding view just wows (for the lack of a better word) you. The kids were definitely enthralled as well as Wayne and Amanda were literally glued to the fish tank; Rachel on the other hand, was grinning from ear to ear.
After the obligatory photos, we settled down for lunch. As it was Mother's Day, a standard 3-course set lunch was being served. While the ambience of the restaurant was amazing, the same could not be said of the food; pretty average for the price they were charging. However the view more than made up for the disappointing cuisine and therefore all in all, it was still a wonderful meal!
For dinner we went to Museo restaurant (at Quayside Isle - yes Sentosa again) sans the children as Rachel's parents kindly looked after them so that we could steal precious hours for ourselves. Museo likewise was also serving a standard 5-course menu for Mother's Day, with an additional 2 hours of art-jam (the restaurant has a corner where you could paint using the supplied canvas). Thankfully, the meal was excellent, the food was wonderful and we were absolutely stuffed at the end of the 5 courses. It was a very quiet night at the Museo as ours was only 1 of 2 tables that were occupied, which made it seemed like we had the whole restaurant to ourselves for a very intimate dinner.
For the art jam, i was approaching it with trepidation. I do not have an ounce of "Artiness" in my bones and stick figures are probably the best i can muster. Nevertheless we both agreed that we would each paint something to commemorate and mark our 7 year milestone. And off we went..check out our Picasso-esque attempts at painting. We both painted the Eiffel Tower as it was where i had proposed to mark our 7 years of marriage.
At this point if you are adverse to public outpouring of affection, you might want to stop reading now. While i am not one to display my affection outwardly, i definitely want to take this opportunity to pay tribute to my dearest wife, Rachel. At the same time, as it is Mother's Day, i also want to let everyone know the wonderful mother that Rachel is to my children.
As we mark 7 years of marriage, i just want her to know that i could not have asked for a more amazing wife. Rachel has been my soul mate, my confidant and my best friend for the greater part of the last 10 years since i knew her. I have never, and i know i never will, meet someone who fits me like a glove like Rachel does. We are alike in so many ways and she knows me like the back of her hand. She knows what i am thinking of most of the time and we often say the same things at the same time. This is not just a function of coincidence, it is also down to the love and the precious experiences we have shared for the last 10 years.
She is a wonderful person who loves me and the children unconditionally. I have learned so much about love from Rachel. As someone who is prone to a quick temper, i constantly struggle to keep my temper in check when i handle the kids. Rachel on the other hand is the epitome of grace and love when it comes to the kids.
Gone are the days where the mother is the one who takes care only of the domestic affairs. Mothers now have to bring back the bacon in addition to the traditional duties of keeping the home intact.
Rachel balances both roles wonderfully. She excels at her work and has a great career and yet at the same time she ensures that the kids are well taken care of. The daily grind and travel which she has to undertake from ensuring that dinner is picked up from my parents' place to tucking the kids into bed at night is nothing short of amazing. While i do put in my fair bit of toil, i always feel that Rachel is the pillar and foundation of our family of four. I never cease to be amazed at her strength and determination as well as her love and sacrifice she makes for us. I only wish i could match up to her as i know for sure that without her, my life would be in chaos.
They say that no one is perfect but in my eyes, Rachel is. She is beautiful, both physically as well as in her heart. She never has anything negative to say of anyone, never cynical; she always tries to see the good in everyone. I am truly blessed to have found someone amongst the billions in this world who is so wonderful, someone who has borne me 2 beautiful children and someone who loves me truly and unconditionally. I am forever grateful for Rachel in my life.
Legend has it that there is the 7-year itch when it comes to marriage. In my case, i am just itching for the next 7 years of marriage to roll on, and may the 2 of us be blessed with many "7 years" of blissful marriage.

Turning six - Last time celebrating at Mindchamps
It is Wayne's last year in Mindchamps and the fourth birthday party he has had in school. As each year passes, he gets a little closer to his teachers, a little more attached to his friends, and Mindchamps becomes less of just a school but a place he has grown to love.
Most significant are the friendships that he has built over the years. The best buddies he tells us about ever so frequently and that special girl in class he gushes about, albeit secretly. He has always been asking us for a party outside of school, but lazy mommy and daddy have always opted for the simpler and safer option of having it in school, and this year was no exception. He chose the Transformers theme for his party, and we engaged MadScience for a session of fun for Wayne and his friends. I'm glad they loved it. It was such a joy to witness their continuous, infectious giggles and laughter throughout the party - these photos say it all!
