Its getting harder to put you to sleep darling..

How I miss the times when we could just put Wayne in his cot, switch off all the lights in his room and he will just fall asleep by himself after a few minutes of playing. Easy peasy. =)

These days, it involves so much more effort.. lots of pacifying, swinging, rocking, humming, anything you can think of… and it still DOES NOT work. In fact he gets smarter and smarter each day. Once I switch off the lights, close his bedroom door and start humming his rock-a-bye-baby song, he knows. Its time to sleep and he does not want to and the ngeh ngeh ngeh protests starts!

And, from just a few days ago, he got even smarter. Now he knows where the entrance of the room is. He will start peering out of the door indicating that he doesn’t want to be in his dim room. He wants to go out to the living room where daddy is. And within a few minutes of him stretching his little body as far towards the door as possible, and you don’t move in that direction, the ngeh ngeh ngeh protests starts again! And that leads to wails if you still don’t get moving!

So.. after half an hour of trying to put him to sleep, we have resorted to letting him sleep with us on our bed. For the past 2 nights already that is. For some reason, if we put him on our bed, he will keep smiling. And spend the next ten minutes, flipping and rolling from corner to corner, till he is finally tired and he’ll then fall asleep in the most awkward position. Like with his neck far stretched out above him and his body curled backwards in the shape of a moon. And from then, he will sleep so soundly that when I carry him and place him in his cot he doesn’t even wake up.

Problem is he will get used to sleeping on our bed if we always allow him to.. so we are at a loss. How do we ‘train’ him to sleep in his cot by himself? Once, we let him cry in his cot, he continued crying for at least 20 minutes without stopping and of course, it broke our heart and we gave in. Once we picked him up, he looked at us so lovingly and broke into such a sweet smile, it totally melted our heart and I swore in my heart (at that moment), mommy’s not going to torture him like that anymore… =)
