Sydney Holiday - Day 3

We started our day early today at 630am, to some bright sunshine. The weather was lovely! Perfect for our long day out.

Today’s itinerary:
1) Hyde Park
2) Darling Harbour
3) Sydney Aquarium
4) Wildlife Park
5) Sydney Tower
6) Darling Harbour at night & Cockle Bay Wharf

Our hotel was so centrally located, that we could walk to all our planned destinations for the day.

Little Wayne, finally in his stroller after much coaxing (and crying and screaming)! Thankfully he sat in his stroller for at least a quarter of the time, otherwise, mommy & daddy's arms and back would have just collapsed, with all the walking we did.

We started our morning with a walk to Hyde Park, which was just opposite our hotel. Wayne got to see many birds at the park and a water fountain which kept him happy. There was also the Hyde Park Barracks, memorial and a very cute giant chess set in the park. The cool weather made it so perfect for long walks.

Then we proceeded our walk along the main shopping district which eventually lead us to Darling Harbour. Just like our previous trips, mommy was the chief navigator and map reader! *proud*. We passed by the famous Queen Victoria Building, Myers, David Jones and all the boutiques which we surprisingly didn’t do any shopping at throughout our entire trip!

In about 15 minutes, we arrived at the very pretty Darling Harbour. It was very scenic with the blue skies, blue waters and many yachts & cafes lining the harbor.

We bought our tickets to the Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife Park and Sydney Tower – all 3 attractions in a combo ticket package.

First, was to the Sydney Aquarium which we covered in about two hours. Wayne was such a timid little boy, he spent almost the entire time inside the Aquarium saying ‘pa pa’ (‘scared scared’)! He was especially scared of the shark and stingray! Sigh.. my little boy. Daddy managed to amuse him for a while with the ‘dugong’. After which, he said daddy was the dugong. And mommy the shark. As for Wayne, he said he was the nemo. Funny boy.

Mommy concluded the Sydney Aquarium was much nicer than our Underwater world at Sentosa, as it was much bigger and had many different areas to go in and out of which made the ‘tour’ more interesting. But then again, mommy can’t really remember when the last time I went to Underwater World was, so it’s not a very fair comparison.

We had lunch at a café at the Aquarium before heading to the Wildlife Park which was just next door. Highlights of the wildlife park were the crocodile, koala and kangaroos! However the Wildlife Park being located in the city, it didn’t feel that good.. mommy very much prefers showing Wayne these animals in a farm setting, which we have covered on Day 7. Still, Wayne enjoyed himself with the animals.. hopping and going “Roo” when we ask him if he saw kangaroos earlier on.

It took us another 2 hours to cover the Wildlife Park, and after that, tired from all the walking, we took a rest along the harbour while Wayne ran about. Daddy and mommy just sat on the bench along the harbour, taking in the pretty scenery and again felt so so relaxed.. and then decided to go for afternoon coffee in a café across on the other side of the harbour from where we were. The moment Wayne got in the stroller, he fell asleep. He must have been really tired, as we got up at 630am that morning! And so that meant, mommy & daddy got to enjoy our cup of coffee as he slept. =)

After about an hour at the café, we had to proceed to our next destination, the Sydney Tower before they closed! But before that, we grabbed a Movenpick chocolate ice cream cone, which made us feel even colder in the cool weather! Wayne had his share of ice cream and loved the cone and chocolate at the bottom of the cone!

At Sydney Tower, we took the lift up real high.. and just like in the plane, due to air pressure, Wayne stuck his fingers in his ears & shook his head, trying to get rid of the uncomfortableness ! So cute!!! View was awesome, we could see real far and spotted Blue Mountains as well. Bought the photos taken by the staff there for $35. Quite a touristy gimmick, but well, for the sake of memories. =)

After almost a whole day out, we were exhausted! We were walking almost non-stop!! So after Sydney Tower, we got back to our hotel around 545pm, took our shower, let Wayne sleep for another hour, before we headed out again at 7pm for dinner at Cockle Bay Wharf.

We decided on Nick’s Seafood, which was a popular Aussie restaurant by the harbour. The seafood platter looked so sumptuous but because there were so many items that we didn’t eat (oysters, mussels..), mommy decided on seafood risotto and daddy had steak and grilled king prawns. And Wayne had a chicken cutlet kids meal. It was so yummy!! The seafood was really fresh! Mommy just loves seafood, yummy!!!

And so, after a fun-filled day and one of the best dinners we had in Sydney, we ended the night with the equally pretty night view of Darling Harbour.
